Source: Reclaimed Wood

Craftsman and designers are flocking now, more than ever, to materials like salvage (aka reclaimed) wood for projects.  Whether it's frames or furniture, reclaimed wood has color, texture, patina, and - best of all - history.

Part of my personal collection - reclaimed wood stools with salvaged boat numbers from Indonesia

Tips:

  • Find a local wood-worker and, if you consider yourself handy, ask for wood scraps and have fun assembling your own creation.
  • Be on the lookout for old wood sources - barrels, benches, frames, doors, etc. - you can repurpose these or break them down for a design of your very own.

In doing some online research for my own project, I stumbled on a great post at Apartment Therapy which list some great sources for reclaimed wood and salvaged wood furniture - check it out here.
