The Aesthetic Omnivore to debut fashion/eyewear film

The design team at Focus Group West has been hard at work lately on a short stop-action film that was shot in collaboration with photographer Philip Harvey.  Here are a few shots of what you can expect in the first official film made exclusively for The Aesthetic Omnivore:

Golden Globes Round-Up

Just a quick recap on the Golden Globe awards that aired this past weekend. Though everyone is talking about Ricky Gervais, let's not forget the winners. The Omnivore got 6 out of 8 predicting wins for The Social Network, The Kids are All Right, Annette Bening, Geoffrey Rush, Melissa Leo, and Natalie Portman.

How'd we do on fashion predictions? Well, there was a lot more color this year than expected though balanced well with off-the-shoulder looks and neutral tones as we anticipated. Check out some of the highlights below:

Buzz: Acne Store

Ella Alexander of the UK VOGUE.COM called it "Acne Domination". She was, of course, referring to the July opening of the first Acne store in London during fashion week.

Designer Blake Kuwahara had a chance to visit the store and see first hand what all the fuss was about.

Leave it to the Swedes to open a minimal yet warm and inviting "studio" as they call it (not a store) on Dover Street just a few doors down from Dover Street Market.  Four floors- one each dedicated to denim, accessories, womenswear, and menswear- with their tall ceilings, large vertical, leaded glass windows, and whitewashed walls and floors is a place you not only want to shop but to live.  My criteria for a great store is one that you could just add a kitchen and call home.  This one even comes complete with a landscaped rooftop terrace and large canvasses by artist Jeremiah Goodman. - Blake Kuwahara, London Oct. 2010

Orry-Kelly

Originally born in Australia, John Orry-Kelly moved to New York and went from being Cary Grant's room mate to three-time Academy Award-winning costume designer during his 40 year career in Hollywood.

Having amassed a resume of over 290 films, this former actor found his passion in design and costuming in the 1930's. Working for all the major studios, he contributed to some of the most iconic films in history (42nd Street, The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, An American in Paris and Sweet Bird of Youth - just to name a few).

Some of Hollywood's most famous women have dawned his fashions.

One of the more memorable films early in his career was Fashions of 1934 - now commonly referred to as Fashions. The film starred William Powell as a swindler who bootlegged fashions from Paris and sold them in the United States to the highest bidder. His on-screen costar (once considered to be Orry-Kelly's muse) was Bette Davis who often recreated and sketched the Parisian runway styles from memory.

Keeping company with Travis Banton, Gilbert Adrian, and Edith Head, Orry-Kelly's immense contribution to fashion and film showed a uncompromising vision and true passion for couture.

Tokyo: Fashion & Architecture Collide

With cities like Akihabara, Harajuku, Roppongi, and Tokyo, Japan can be considered an epicenter of fashion. With their willingness to experiment with style, color, and fit and the strong influence their youth culture provides, the city's fashions are trend-setting for those in the fashion-know. The city also takes pride in it's architecture and cutting-edge point of view.
